Fonadcio Asia’s Communications Workshop

I am sure some of you do not know yet, but Fondacio has been in Asia since 1981 and have been actively participating as a lay Christian movement in the local church through community building and works of evangelization. It started in the communities of Malaysia, Philippines, and Myanmar with the coming of a number of French missionaries sent by Fondacio to Asia.

In 2006, we started the Institute of Formation Fondacio Asia (or IFFAsia) located in Fairview, Quezon City in the Philippines. As of date, we have gathered more than 200 youth leaders, pastoral workers, and NGO workers coming from 16 countries in Asia.

Since 2015, we have been putting up our Youth Leadership and Development Centers (or YLDC) to address the needs of the youth especially those who are underprivileged. Currently, we have 5 centers located in 4 countries (Philippines, Myanmar, Laos and Malaysia).

We also have been recently venturing into social enterprises to help sustain our missions such as the Green Pastures (http://fondacio-asia.org/green-pastures/) and Youn Sone (https://www.facebook.com/myyounsone/).

YES, we have all these! But not many know about it. Which is sad because we know that A LOT of people and communities can benefit from our projects and MANY MORE who would be keen to support and be part of our mission! We also want to show that the young people are the NOW of the Church and Society and that they can ACT and LEAD according to the signs of the times.

We felt the need to COMMUNICATE better who we are and what we do. We are a very unique specie of organization so it will not be easy. Yet, we believe that WE are making a difference in Asia.

We should continue to partner with MORE individuals and organizations who are doing the same! We even hired a full-time staff (Jason Chan our communications officer) so you will hear from us more, understand us better, and so that you can join our missions and be with us in making a positive change.

With this NEW mission in mind, we have decided to seek help from experts. Last July 13, 2019 we had the opportunity to undergo a communications workshop in St. John’s Cathedral in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to help us review our communications strategies.

It was spearheaded by our dynamic and young facilitators who are experts in their own fields, Zhenwei Ku (Management consulting manager of Accenture), Amelia Ong (Co-founder and art director at Rocket Signs Lab.), Derrick Chan (Research Officer in United Nations University-International Institute for Global Health (UNU-IIGH) and Timmy Caparros (Retail Brand and Marketing Communications executive in Maybank). And they did all these FREE of charge!

It was a good time to understand where we are standing now in terms of our communications and a fun experience to explore different possibilities of communicating what we, Fondacio Asia, are all about.

One output was to launch a social media campaign “Stars of Change.” We will showcase the lives of our staff, alumni, beneficiaries, and volunteers and how Fondacio made a change in their lives and how they are now making a change in the lives of others.  So look out for this and start to get to know not only what we do in Fondacio, but also what Fondacio did in our lives.

With this, we hope that we can reach out to more and more individuals and organizations whom we can collaborate with and together be Sparks of Change in Asia and in the World!
