YOUNG LIVES LAOS SUMMER PROGRAM LAUNCHES IN PONG KIEW VILLAGE

The Empowering Young Minds Summer Program officially began its classes this July in Pong Kiew Village, bringing together 65 children and youth for six weeks of learning and growth. Organized by Young Lives Laos, the program welcomed participants between the ages of 7 and 18, who were divided into four classes of 16 to 17 students each. To ensure each learner receives instruction tailored to their needs, the Young Lives team conducted oral and written placement tests on July 6. These assessments helped group students by both proficiency level and age, allowing for more effective teaching and learning.

Classes commenced on July 7, with English lessons scheduled from Monday to Thursday for all groups. Fridays are set aside for human formation sessions, a core element of the program’s holistic approach to youth development. The opening session, themed “Who Am I,” encouraged students to reflect on their identity and personal growth, establishing a foundation of self-discovery that will be integrated throughout the six-week course.

Pairing Academics with Personal Growth

The program’s structure is designed to combine academic instruction with values formation and life skills development, helping students advance not only in English, Mathematics, and Lao language, but also in confidence and character. This balance between classroom learning and personal development reflects the community spirit that marked the program’s early preparations, when children were actively involved in setting up the learning space ahead of the first day.
